How long does my hair need to be before I can get waxed?
We recommend hairs are at least 1/2cm long for best results.
How long will waxing last?
This really depends on your own hair growth. In most cases, a waxing will last between 4 and 6 weeks. Continued waxing encourages slower, sparser regrowth.
Is there anything I should avoid or know before I wax?
Please avoid sunlight or sunbeds 24 hours prior to waxing. Accutane, Coumadin or other blood thinners, alpha-hydroxy acids, Retin-A, glycolic acids, hydroquinone, topical cortisone, and some antidepressants can aggravate waxing. It is not recommended that you wax after receiving microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, a peel, or surgical removal of any growth in the area to be waxed. Please call us for a consultation prior to scheduling your waxing session if you are using any of these products or have recently received any of the procedures listed above.
Is there anything I should do or avoid after I wax?
Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24-48 hours. This means:
- No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only).
- No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments.
- No tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds or fake tans).
- No sport, gym work or other exercise.
- Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.
- Wear clean, loose fitting clothes.
- Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
- Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended by your therapist.
To soothe and protect the skin, we recommended Australian Bodycare Hand and Body Lotion is applied to the waxed area regularly for 3 days following your treatment. This is available to purchase in-salon. Always wash your hands before applying any product.
Is waxing painful?
We’re not going to tell you that it’s the most pleasant treatment we offer, but it usually isn’t as bad as it sounds. We have found that two things determine a less painful experience from a more painful one: product and proper technique. Absolute uses the finest waxes on the market and we provide advanced wax training for all of our therapists in proper technique to ensure you get the best results with minimal discomfort.
Every time I wax it seems like I get really bad in-grown hairs. Is there anything that I can do about this?
Yes there is. First, we recommend that you exfoliate the area daily, two days after your waxing, with a loofah, body brush or our Dermalogica Ultimate Buffing Cloth. This helps to remove dry skin that can block pores and lead to in-grown hairs. Secondly, we do recommend our best selling No Bump Rx that can reduce or eliminate in-grown hairs by shrinking the pore and forcing the hair to grow upward. Also moisturise the area every day, which will keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow through normally.
What’s the difference between a traditional bikini, high bikini, Brazilian and a Hollywood?
A traditional bikini follows your pant line. A high or extended bikini is high sides, top and underneath. A Brazilian is everything off, but leaving a small strip at the top. A Hollywood is everything off. However every client is different, so please tell your therapist what you are looking for.
Do I have to get naked for a bikini wax?
For traditional and high bikini waxing, no. Although you can keep them on for Brazilian and Hollywood, it’s best to wear an old thong, or we provide disposable pants if you prefer. If you’re quite happy to remove your underwear that’s fine too and this helps us get the best wax. Advanced waxing is a speciality at Absolute and we do lots of these types of waxes and we’ve seen it all before!
